Southern Boone to Place $4 Million No-Tax-Rate Increase Bond Issue on April 7 Ballot |
Southern Boone voters will consider a $4 million no-tax-rate increase bond issue in the April 7, 2026, election. If approved, the district’s tax rate would remain at $1.7423 per $100 of assessed valuation. The bond would fund repairs and upgrades to existing school facilities, including parking lots, roofs, and HVAC systems at multiple buildings. Many of the areas included are more than 20 years old and in need of replacement.
District leaders say the proposal focuses on maintaining the facilities the community already uses, rather than expanding buildings. |
Proposed 2026-2027 District Calendar |
The Southern Boone Board of Education recently received an update on the draft 2026–2027 district calendar, which proposes a 169 student instructional day calendar. This calendar meets all Missouri requirements, including the 1,044 instructional hour minimum, while positioning the district to qualify for additional state funding.
Recent changes to state law provide incentive funding for districts that operate 169 or more student days. Southern Boone has been just two days short of this mark in each of the past two years. Under the proposed calendar, eligible incentive funding—equal to 2% of prior-year state aid—must be used to support teacher salaries or compensation, helping with recruitment and retention.
To reach 169 student days, the draft calendar converts one April professional development day and one staff flex day into student instructional days, while still including six built-in snow days. Parent-teacher conferences will continue in November and March, with early dismissal on Thursdays and no school on the following Fridays.
The draft calendar is being shared with families and staff and will be presented to the Board of Education for approval at the February 17th board meeting.

High School Vo-Ag Wing Construction Project Update |
Work continues to move forward on the new Vo-Ag wing at Southern Boone High School! All load-bearing walls are now complete, roof joists have been installed, and the roof for the large shop area is in place. Crews are currently focused on finishing the remaining roof work, while HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems continue to take shape as the project progresses.
Once complete, the addition will include a state-of-the-art vocational and agriculture department featuring two classrooms, lab space, and a shop, along with two new art classrooms and a family and consumer science classroom.
These improvements are made possible through the $11.6 million No Tax Rate Increase Bond Issue, approved by voters in April 2024. The project remains on track for completion in Summer/Fall 2026, and we’re excited to see it come together for our students and community! |
Winter Weather and Snow Days Update |
As we move through winter, we want to share an update on snow days used so far this school year. The 2025–2026 district calendar includes six built-in snow days to account for potential weather-related closures. Snow days used to date: - December 2, 2025 - January 26, 2026 - January 27, 2026 Remaining snow days: Three We appreciate everyone’s flexibility during winter weather events and will continue to communicate promptly if additional inclement weather impacts the school schedule. Please watch for updates via email, text, the district app, and social media as needed.
If additional days are needed beyond these six, the district may use up to five Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI)/virtual learning days. Traditional snow days will be used first, followed by AMI days. The Southern Boone School District wants to ensure families are prepared for potential weather-related schedule changes. The safety and security of our students and staff remain our top priority and guide every decision regarding inclement weather.
